The purpose of greenofchange®
The garment industry has a major impact,

both on the environment and on the people

finishing-process-textile-water.jpg

According to a research conducted by Levi's, during its lifetime a pair of jeans is responsible for the consumption of 3.772 liters of water.
A part of this use is caused by the garment finishing process, the last phase of the garment making.

During the finishing phase, garments are treated with a series of processes that define the final style of the garment: colors, shades, bleaching, effects, coatings, rips and so on.

Water and energy consumption aside, these processes can use hazardous or pollutant chemicals, that release dangerous substances in the environment such as:

  • formaldehyde

  • heavy metals

  • alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates

  • chlorobenzenes and chlorotoluenes

  • chlorotoluenes

  • perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs)

  • aromatic amines from azo dyes

  • polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Without significant changes, this path will lead to irreparable damages to our planet.

The need to take action led Garmon to create greenofchange®.

greenofchange® is Garmon’s platform
to enhance chemical safety in textile and

to improve environmental performance in garment treatment

Inspired by a deep respect for the environment, supported by the latest innovations in Chemical R&D, each greenofchange® process represents an alternative, greener solution to treat garments.

What are the requirements of greenofchange® ?

A greenofchange® process must combines two fundamental requirements:

  1. the use of Garmon safecertified chemicals only

  2. a finishing process efficient in terms of use of natural resources

The combination of non-hazardous chemicals and efficient treatment guarantees a truly sustainable finishing process, that reduces impact on the environment and increases safety for the people, both workers of the textile industry and consumers that buy the final garment.

Buying a greenofchange® garment

Only the garments produced respecting all of the greenofchange® requirements represent a substantial action in defense of the environment.

When the finishing of a garment is compliant with greenofchange® requirements, the fashion brand can apply a special hangtag with a QR code on it.

Scanning the QR code, you can discover the exact amount of natural resources saved in the finishing process.

This allow you to buy responsibly and do your part in helping our planet.
